How old is too old for an HVAC system? According to Ryan Otto, Operations Manager at No Problem Heating & Cooling, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.
In a recent feature published by ACHR NEWS, Ryan shared his insight on one of the biggest questions homeowners face when dealing with aging heating and cooling equipment: Is it worth repairing, or is it time to replace?
As Ryan explained in the article, a system’s age doesn’t tell the whole story. Maintenance history and overall condition can make a significant difference. A well-maintained system that’s been running for 35 years may be in better shape than a much newer system that hasn’t received proper care.

At No Problem Heating & Cooling, we believe homeowners deserve honest recommendations and a clear understanding of their options. That’s why the repair-versus-replacement conversation should consider more than just the age of the equipment.
Several factors come into play, including:
- Overall condition: How well has the system been maintained, and what shape are its major components in?
- Repair costs: Is the current repair relatively minor, or could the investment outweigh the value of keeping the system?
- Parts and refrigerant availability: Are replacement parts still accessible, and does the system rely on an outdated refrigerant?
- Future reliability: Could other aging components fail soon after the current repair?
- Safety: Are there any issues that could put the homeowner or their property at risk?
Ryan also emphasized the importance of giving homeowners options rather than automatically recommending a new system. While replacement may make more financial sense in some situations, a repair can still be a reasonable choice in others. The goal is to explain the pros, cons, and potential costs so homeowners can make an informed decision.
One point Ryan made especially clear is that safety always comes first. If equipment presents a safety concern, protecting the homeowner takes priority over getting the system running again.
We’re proud to see Ryan and the No Problem Heating & Cooling team represented in this industry conversation. It’s an opportunity to share the experience and customer-first approach that guide the work we do every day.

We've had two different technicians, both were exceptional. After a very detailed inspection and testing regimen, they gave me a detailed report and summary of things I should plan on. On top of great service, dealing with the office was a delight.Posted on Google![]()

We have a large 2 story home (3,650 sq. ft.) with zoned heat and AC. Through years of repairs and replacements the result was 2 mismatched HVAC systems. We wanted to replace our 2 mismatched systems with reliable high efficiency systems and the crew at No Problem Heating and Cooling (NPM) more than met our expectations. NPM provided a detailed quote for 4 levels of systems at varying costs and with different options. What impressed us more was they never pressured us to buy any of them. NPM answered all our questions which allowed us to choose the best system for us. NPM arrived early and went to work, the end result was all that we hoped for. We highly recommend NPM for their professionalism and quality of systems they offer.Posted on Google![]()

Casey came to repair my mom's furnace and did an amazing job. He was very professional and informative. You can definitely tell he takes pride in his work. Since this went through her Home Warranty she only had to pay the deductible.Posted on Google![]()
